A wine like Man City

I'm trying to think of a wine like Manchester City, the football club I support (http://www.mcfc.co.uk/). But I can't. Oasis frontman and City fan Noel Gallagher sums the situation with City up best:

"The fixture list comes out on Thursday, we haven't got a manager, we've only got half a team and we haven't sold any season tickets. It's brilliant."
He adds:
"It's pure Man City. I'm loving it."

Top work, except that the frontman of Oasis is Noel's brother, Liam.

A wine that represents Citeh? OK, Mouton Cadet. Some have a soft spot for it, but it's a perennial underachiever and always in the shadow of its more expensive cousin.

If City were a book they would be...

The Hollow Men - TS Eliot

If they were a character in a novel it would be...

Miss Havisham

If City were an idea they would be ...

The Uncertainty Principle - Heissenberg

If their fans were to have a corporate logo it would be...

The Real Thing (Unlike United)

If City were a period in history it would be the 70s (their own "Bell-Epoque)

And if Man City were a wine they would be a fading grand cru classe, probably a Margaux such as Chateau Lascombes or Brane-Cantenac.

I reckon village Burgundies as a whole would probably sum it up. Affordable, often somewhat underwhelming, but occasionally you get a good one that makes you forgive all the rubbish (at least until the bottle's empty)

Great suggestions, although I think Mouton Cadet is just a bit too low budget, don't you think?

Nice joke I heard this morning. Or possibily a true story.

We're in Manchester. A woman comes out of a supermarket evidently struggling under the weight of her shopping. She is spotted by the great Francis Lee who asks: "Can you manage?"

"You're not getting me that easily," she replies.

If Man City were a wine they would be an Aussie Shiraz.
Variable quality. Full of promise and great for one glass every now and again. By the end of the bottle the taste has got too much to stomach and you feel a bit let down but you still rush back for another bottle.

Still no manager. Still no takeover.

If they're still stuck come the new season, I'm willing to help out.
