A Riesling QBA from 2007 that just sings...
As I've said before on this blog, if you are in the wine trade you have no choice about which your favourite white grape is. It *just* has to be Riesling. Well, with wines like this, it's not difficult. It's beautifully balanced and delicious. The only problem? It should really be a pound or two cheaper, I think.
Reichsrat von Buhl Riesling QBA 2007 Pfalz, Germany
Delightfully fresh, light, bright and aromatic, with lovely lemon and grapefruit zippiness. There's a hint of sweetness on the palate, but overall it is dry and minerally; mouthwatering and precise. Brilliant stuff. Sealed with a Diam closure, and 11% alcohol. 89/100 (£10.39 Laithwaites)

Shhh - Don't let the Riesling secret out! :)
Wow, that's some very ambitious pricing. It's under 5 euros ex-domaine from memory.
Riesling is an honorable runner-up to Chenin Blanc.
Jim---agreed
Jim Budd is right, Riesling is not the best. There are some hitherto unsung grape varieties that are really showing their true colours, thanks to improved understanding in the vineyard and winery. Think Alb(v)ariño and maybe even Malvasia. Just tased the latter in Arribes in Spain. Cheap as chip and sooooo captivating
Jamie, that label is a Laithwaites own! Their wine has a heady 20g r/s but the bottle you tried, as a supplier of it, only has 7g. Glad you enjoyed it so much!
