This Piedmont producer owns nine different vineyards, from
which they make a large variety of wines. Quality is solid veering
towards impressive; nothing really blew me away, though.
Moscato d’Asti 2000
Grapey rich nose with a spicy, sherbetty edge. Really tasty,
rounded palate: not too sweet. Super stuff, really lively. Very good+
Spumante Metodo Classico Dosage Zero 1998
Lovely stuff: dry and fresh with a herby savouriness. Impressive.
Very good+
Gavi di Gavi Grange 2000
This tasty white shows delicious herby complexity on the nose with
some sweetness to the fruit. The palate is nicely savoury with waxy,
herby intensity. Very good+
Chardonnay Langhe ‘Morino’ Single Vineyard 1998
Quite a deep yellow/gold colour. Fresh nutty, herby nose leads to
a savoury, nutty palate with lots of fresh lemony fruit. Very good
Dolcetto d’Alba ‘Brico de Vergne’ Single Vineyard
1999
Juicy, sweet fruit on the nose with a liquoricey edge. Good
concentration. Palate is brightly fruited with a savoury finish. Tasty
but a bit one dimensional? Very good
Rosse Langhe 2000
Bright red/purple colour. Elegantly fruited nose with a liqouricey
edge. Palate is quite savoury with a bit of structure. Potential? Very
good
Sorvana Barbera d’Alba 1999
Muted but still-fruity nose. Youthful palate shows a good density
of bright berry fruit with a tannic, spicy finish. Very good
Barolo ‘Cerequio’ Single Vineyard 1997
Mid-coloured with a slightly fading rim. Nice herbal nose is still
quite youthful. Palate is chunky, firm and tannic with great density
and savoury herbal complexity. Currently hard to assess but good
potential here. Very good+
