Founded in 1981, Grosset Wines has built up a reputation as Australia’s best producer of Riesling. It’s a 9000 case operation, and as well as two superb Rieslings (Polish Hill and Watervale) Grosset also makes other sought after wines, including a classy Chardonnay and an expressive cool climate Cabernet blend.

Grosset Polish Hill Riesling 2002 Clare
Quite assertive limey nose with some spicy notes. Good concentration of quite restrained savoury, lemony fruit on the palate. Hard to judge now but with some potential for development. Very good+

Grosset Semillon Sauvignon 2001 Clare
Attractive fresh, crisp nose with some pretty fruit here. Lovely fresh herb-tinged fruit on the palate. Fresh and full. Very good/excellent

Grosset Chardonnay 2001 Picadilly, Adelaide Hills
Very refined, mealy toasty nose: lots of class here. Elegant nutty toasty palate is nicely balanced with good concentration. Very good/excellent

Grosset Gaia 2000 Clare
Classy cool-climate nose of vivid, creamy, minty-edged blackcurrant fruit. The palate shows a good concentration of pure intense berry and blackcurrant fruit with a chalky edge and good acidity. Nice definition. Very good/excellent

Grosset Pinot Noir 2000 Clare
Pale coloured, the nose shows leafy, earthy undergrowthy notes that are very true to the variety. The palate shows sweet herby fruit with spicy, slightly alcoholic finish. Not fully convincing but appealing. Very good+
