The
wines of Henriques & Henriques
One of Madeira's leading producers
Website:
www.henriqueshenriques.pt
A
privately owned company dating back to 1850, Henriques &
Henriques is the largest independent producer and shipper of
Madeira. They’ve been shipping wines under their own label from
the island since 1925, and unlike most of the other shippers, they
actuall own some of their own vineyards.
In
1938 the last of the Henriques, João Joaquim Henriques died without
heirs, but before he died he transferred the company to three
friends, Peter Cossart, Alberto Nascimento Jardim and Carlos Nunes
Pereira.
Henriques
& Henriques made considerable investment in their business in
the early 1990s, building new premises and a new vinification centre.
The wines are attractively packaged in modern-looking 50 cl bottles,
and quality here is admirably consistent.
The
notes below are from a few separate tastings, with the date
indicated in month/year format after each note.
