Aneto is a relatively new producer from the Douro, based in Alijo, with Francisco Montenegro (right) of Quinta Nova as the winemaker (it’s his own venture). The venture started in 2001 based on 7 hectares of vines, and first vintage was the 2002 red, with a white added in 2007 from a separate vineyard. The reductive white wine is interesting if a little funky, and the reds are really impressive with lovely fruit purity. Production of each of the wines is small, at 4–6000 bottles.

Aneto Branco 2007 Douro
From granitic soils at the border of the Douro and Minho. Very reductive, match-sticky nose with nice minerally complexity. The palate is forward and fruity with lovely broad, ripe fruit and a delicious minerally reductive character. Interesting and may age nicely. 89/100

Aneto 2004 Douro
A blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Cao. Sweet, pure focused nose of pure blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, with some minerality. The palate is fresh, pure and supple with lovely focused fruit. Stylish, delicious and pure. 91/100

Aneto 2006 Douro
Pure, sweet, focused dark cherry and blackberry fruit on the nose. The palate shows lovely pure sweet dark fruits with nice focus and a bit of spicy structure. A delicious, pure style. Lovely. 91/100

Aneto Grande Reserva 2006 Douro
Lovely sweet, pure aromatic nose with sweet liqueur-like cherry fruit and a nice spicy edge. The palate shows lovely density and purity with spicy oak and pure fruit. Quite a serious effort. 93/100
