wines of Anselmo
Mendes, Vinho Verde, Portugal
Anselmo Mendes is one of the leading winemakers from
the Vinho Verde region in the north of Portugal. He’s based in the
sub region, famous for its Alvarinhos, and where he was born.
starting his own production, he had a spell in the CVRVV, the local
body responsible for Vinho Verde, and also worked for Borges, where
he still consults. He made his first wine using his name in 1998,
but while his own wines have achieved critical acclaim, he’s also
a consultant with several well known producers throughout Portugal.

Bright, fresh, slightly pithy wine with nice freshness.
There’s a bit of depth here too, as well as a hint of herbiness.

Lively, bright, herby and citrussy with good acidity. Expressive
and lively, this is an interesting wine. 89/100

with nice breadth. 89/100

This wine has some skin maceration. Lively aromatic nose showing
citrus, tangerine and pith notes. The palate is bold and intense
with lovely herby, melony fruit. Broad and mouthfilling with real
