The wines of Strofilia

Oktana SA, 39 M. Mousourou Str, Mets 116.36, Athens, Greece Tel +30 (0) 175 20635

I wasn't really won over by these wines: they were OK, but nothing special, and they aren't that cheap, either. I found them all a bit simple.

Strofilia White 1998
From the Rhoditis grape. Clean, crisp and dry, but with a distinctive Greek personality: waxy and nutty notes predominate, and there's a bit of bitterness on the finish. Good.

Strofilia Nafsika 1998
More of the same. Clean, fresh, waxy and nutty white wine. Good.

Strofilia Rosé 1998
Very pale pink. Fresh and tasty: a functional sort of wine (you'd want to gulp this chilled on a hot day). Not one to linger over.

Strofilia Red 1996
A blend of Nemea (aka St George) and Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep coloured and pleasant, with chunky tannins and a noticeably Greek signature of herbal and medicinal notes. Good.

Oktana Red 1998
Nemea. Bright cherry nose, simply fruited. Simple and clean.

Oktana Red 1999 (tank sample)
Bright cherry fruit predominates. Pretty good, but not my sort of thing.
