This Tuscan producer is best known for the cult-ish wine Lupicaia (which retails for a about Ł40), but second wine Tassinaia is no slouch. It spends 14 months in new allier oak.

Tassinaia 1999 Toscana IGT
A blend of equal proportions of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with just a touch of Syrah. This wine shows a lovely (typically Tuscan) nose of dense herby and spicy notes. The palate is dense with rich fruit and savoury, spicy, dusty tannins. Very good/excellent (Ł18.95 Lea & Sandeman, Noel Young)
Retasted in June 2003 - showing very well with lots of taut, spicy fruit. Quite elegant and relatively serious.

Con Vento 2000 Toscana IGT
100% Sauvignon Blanc. Full floral fruity nose is ripe and fresh. Good concentration on the palate with a rich texture and some spiciness. Very good+ (Ł8.95 Lea & Sandeman)

Tassinaia 2000 Toscana IGT
Firm, spicy tarry nose with a roasted edge. Classy. Lovely taut, spicy berry fruit on the palate. This is very savoury and quite structured, needing some time to come round. Very good+
