The wines of Château Lagrange, St Julien, Bordeaux

Third-growth Lagrange is not one of the head-turning St Julien properties, but it makes solid, fairly serious wines that offer plenty of structure and concentration. These are wines for the cellar.

Les Fiefs de Lagrange 2000 St Julien
Lovely colour. Rich, ripe nose leads to a structured, dense palate that’s chewy and savoury. Quite rich with firm tannins. Needs time. Very good+ 87/100

Château Lagrange 2002 St Julien (barrel sample)
Dense firm, ripe fruit here with a chocolatey edge. Firm and concentrated with sweet fruit. Promising. 90+/100

Château Lagrange 2000 St Julien
Concentrated, dense, rich and spicy on the nose. The palate is chewy, savoury and tannic with rich ripe fruit. The tannins hold the fruit in an iron grip at present but this is a serious effort with considerable promise. Very good/excellent 94+/100

Château Lagrange 1995 St Julien
Full ripe nose with sweet, herby-edged fruit. Dense, firm palate is spicy and savoury with firm tannins. Still needs time. Very good/excellent 90/100
