The wines of Quinta da Pacheca
A review of the wines from this Douro (Portugal) property

Pacheca is located in the Baixo (lower) Douro, just opposite Regua. It consists of two farms, closely located, totalling 51 hectares of vines, and a winery. They also operate an enotourism business. The wines are pretty good: I was especially impressed by the Grande Reserva Touriga Nacional and the Vinha da Rita.

Quinta da Pacheca Branco 2010 Douro
Malvasia, Gouveio and Cerceal.
Bright, fruity and taut with nice crispness and good fruit presence. 86/100

Quinta da Pacheca Tinto 2009 Douro
Nice bright, fresh, cherryish nose.
Supple with grippy structure. An attractive wine with nice berry fruits on the palate. Well made. 85/100

Quinta da Reserva Tinto 2009 Douro
60% Touriga Nacional with the balance Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Sousão and Bastardo.
Lovely ripe, supple fruit with focused berry fruit notes, as well as some cherry. Nice definition and a savoury, spicy twist. 89/100

Quinta da Pacheca Grande Reserva Touriga Nacional 2009 Douro
Lovely floral, violet, meaty aromatics are varietally true. Dense but supple berry and black cherry fruit, with notes of olives and herbs. A lovely wine with a fresh finish. 91/100

Quinta da Pacheca Vinha da Rita 2009 Douro
Only made in special years, from a 3.5 hectare, 60 year old vineyard. Rich and spicy with lovely dark fruits, some mineral notes and good structure. Notes of olives, tar and herbs with well integrated oak. Structured and fine. 92/100
