Paul and Angela Jacobson (above) are the people behind Judge Rock, which is based in Alexandra. The vines were planted in 1998, and there are 4 hectares in all, of which half a hectare is St Laurent, the rest Pinot Noir. There's a mix of clones, and 80% of the vines are on their own roots. The wines are made at VinPro. First vintage was 2002. 'Our wines have always had an elegance to them,' says Paul. 'And a bit of spice that comes through,' adds Angela. Both of the St Laurents tasted here were chaptalized.
