SK (Sarah-Kate) and Dan Dineen are the husband and wife team who run Mount Maude, a a beautiful 4 hectare vineyard in Wanaka that was first planted in 1994, at an altitude of 350 m. It’s on the north-facing slopes of the Maungawera Valley. It’s owned by SK’s parents, and SK and Dan moved here to take on the project after working at Tower Estate (Dan) and Tempus Two (SK) in the Hunter Valley, Australia (Dan’s an Aussie).

They make the estate Mount Maude wines, but also have a brand, Maude, which produces wines from carefully sourced vineyards. The Maude range consists of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris from various Central Otago locations, and Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough.

THE WINES

Maude Mount Maude Dry Riesling 2013 Central Otago, New Zealand
Lovely white peach richness on the nose. Great balance with pretty lemony fruit. Precision here, and lovely complexity. Quite dry. 93/100

Maude Mount Maude Pinot Noir 2009 Central Otago, New Zealand
85% whole bunch. Vivid, ripe and fresh with dense raspberry and cherry fruit. Rich and dense but still has freshness. Notes of plums and spice, too. 92/100 (02/14)

Maude Mount Maude Pinot Noir 2012 Central Otago, New Zealand
50% whole bunch. Sweet, fresh yet rich with some grainy texture to the plum and cherry fruit. Nice mineral dimension here. Quite rich. 93/100 (02/14)

Maude Mount Maude Pinot Noir 2012 Central Otago, New Zealand
From Wanaka. Very fresh and expressive with bright red cherry fruit. It's lighter in style than some with lovely elegance. So supple and bright, showing nice precision. 94/100 (02/14)
