Highlights: Wildman Wine Heavy Petting Pét-Nat 2018 Riverland, Australia

Tim Wildman was a wine merchant, passed the MW exams, and headed off to Australia. As well as running James Busby Travel (taking professionals on tours of Australia), he’s also become a winemaker, specializing in Pét-Nats. The first one he made was a gusher, but he has refined his methods, and this is a really impressive wine.

Wildman Wine Heavy Petting Pét-Nat 2018 Riverland, Australia
A blend of 99% Nero d’Avola and 1% Zibibbo. 10% alcohol. It has a fresh, floral, sappy red cherry and steeped plum nose. The palate is fresh and fruity with the bubbles adding brightness to the lovely red fruits. There’s a hint of damson, some rhubarb, and a twist of ginger and pepper. Lovely stuff that’s quite dry. Food friendly, too. 92/100 (£24 Vinoteca)

UK agent: Indigo Wines

UK stockists of Tim’s wines: Pull The Cork, Love + Labour, Bottle Apostle, Dvine Cellars, Vinoteca, The Sampler, Remedy, Trinity,  La Trompette, Spiritland, Philglas & Swiggot, Seven Cellars, Quaff, Quality Wines, Sager+Wilde, Noble Rot
