Four lovely wines at the Drapers Arms: Momento, Suertes, Rougeard, Corleone

Four of us gathered at The Drapers Arms to do some playing with the Josephinenhütte wine glasses, and then we dined, and drank four lovely wines.

Momento Chenin Blanc Verdelho 2021 Western Cape, South Africa
13% alcohol. 63% Chenin, 37% Verdelho, matured in 400 litre used oak. This is an absolute belter from Marilese. Concentrated and intense with lovely crystalline citrus fruit as well as some pear and a touch of peach. It’s also some salty goodness here with spicy texture. Fine, with so much going on. 94/100

Suertes del Marqués Trenzado 2023 Val de Oratava, Tenerife, Spain
12.5% alcohol. Trenzado in this vintage isn’t as wild and reductive as it can be some years. This has lovely depth of fruit with pear peach and even some pineapple, as well as focused the citrus notes. Quite textural lovely precision and focus, showing good depth of fruit but also greatest acidity. Long. 94/100

Clos Rougeard Saumur Champigny 2018 Loire, France
I was really impressed by this, which wasn’t all grunty. Supple, elegant and textured lovely sweet black cherry and raspberry fruit. Expressive with real elegance to the fruit. Nicely texture to this wine, with such supple tannins. Elegant, focused and refined. 96/100

Tenute di Carleone Uno 2020 IGT Toscana, Italy
13.5% alcohol. Bright and focused with a spicy edge to the bright cherry and raspberry fruit. Lovely precision and structure here; such elegance and focus. It has elements of Pinot Noir combined with element elements of Nebbiolo. Such precision. 95/100
