Matt Gregory makes wines from a single 3 hectare vineyard in Leicestershire (UK), a county not normally associated with winegrowing. The wines are naturally made, in small quantities, and they are fabulous.

Matt Gregory Wines Little Sister NV England
9% alcohol. This is a blend of two vintages. From 2023, 20% Pinot Noir, 14% Pinot Gris and from 2024, 47% Bacchus, 10% Regent, 9% Seyval Blanc. Direct pressed Bacchus from 2024 was aged in stainless steel and then blended with co-fermented Regent and Seyval after the Winter. A single barrel of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris from the 2023 vintage was also then blended in. The only addition was a small sulfur dioxide addition before bottling in August 2025. This is pale in colour, and light and expressive on the nose with green-tinged red cherries, cranberries and elderflower. The palate is fresh and juicy with good acidity and some lovely lemon, mandarin and cherry notes, with a touch of redcurrant. It’s like a clarete in style, with more colour and structure than a rose, but it behaves quite like a white wine gastronomically, with keen acidity. The low alcohol really brings out the tart qualities of the fruit really nicely. There’s enough complexity to hold the interest, and it’s a beautifully expressive, personality-full wine. 93/100 (£27.50)

Matt Gregory Wines Two Sisters 2023 England
10% alcohol. 60/40 Pinot Noir/Pinot Gris. Destemmed and co-fermented, then pressed to stainless steel and a single used barrique from Barolo (25% of the blend). Only addition was minor sulfite add before bottling. Quite pale in colour, this has a sappy nose with green leafy notes and some cherry and redcurrant. The palate shows some structure and a hint of savoury spiciness, as well as tart red fruits, but also a bit of ripe pear richness, and some wild strawberry. There’s a lot going on here: a lighter-style red with real personality and character. 93/100 (£37.50)
