Nekter Deli: a new wine bar in an impressive space with a great list

On Friday evening we headed over to Nekter Deli. I’ve known Nekter as an importer of some very interesting low-intervention wines, particularly from California, so I was keen to see what the new wine bar in Shoreditch is like.

It’s in a nice airy space in the ground floor of a new build, and by day it’s a regular deli and coffee shop, but by evening it turns into a low key wine bar with some food options, serving a really interesting selection of wines, as well as being a bottle shop. The range is fabulous and well chosen, and the prices are really keen.

What did we drink? I fell for a Grenache from California producer I Brand (https://www.ibrandwinery.com/) making some really good wines from the Central Coast.

I Brand La Marea Grenache 2019 Central Coast, California
14% alcohol. This comes from Monterey Bay. It’s in a beautiful place: fresh red cherries and strawberries here. Sleek and elegant with real purity and some floral finesse. Just a bit of tannin here, with some softness to the texture but no loss of shape. Really impressive. 94/100

So, I thoroughly recommend Nekter Deli. Great place and a good option for starting the evening (licensing restrictions means it doesn’t stay open late) before heading off to other Shoreditch fun spots.
