Augalevada, a star from Spain’s Ribeiro

Iago Garrido founded Fazenda Augalevada back in 2008, after purchasing 4 hectares of abandoned terraces in the northern part of Ribeiro, which he has renovated and now farms biodynamically. He’s based in the Rioboó zone, which used to have a reputation for red wines. These wines are quite brilliant. I tasted with Iago at the Simplesmente Vinho event in Porto, February 2026.

Ollos Branco 2024 Ribeiro, Spain
65% Treixadura, 25% Agudelo (Chenin Blanc) and 10% Lado. Lively, very bright, vivid and mineral with good acidity. Taut and compressed. Lively citrus fruit drives this. 92/100

Ollos de Roque 2023 Ribeiro, Spain
Same blend as branco, aged 10 months under flor yeast in one-third 400 litre amphora and two-thirds in old oak. One parcel, granitic soils. So interesting, with notes of dried herbs and stony mineral detail. Fresh and layered. Wet stone finish. 93/100

Ollos Tinto 2024 Ribeiro, Spain
Caiño Longo, Brancellao, Espadeiro and Sousón, 70% whole cluster, barrels and amphora. This is fresh and floral but with a savoury edge. Wide dynamic range with subtle meaty depth as well as freshness. 94/100

Ollos de Maia 2023 Ribeiro, Spain
45% Caiño Longo, 45% Brancellao, and 10% Caíño da Terra, aged in larger oak, partially under flor. Lovely tension, good acidity, lively fruit. Really expressive with dried herbs and wild strawberries. 94/100
