Lunch at Le Port de By Chez Cécile, Grièges, Mâcon
Not far from Mâcon, with breathtaking view of the Saône, this is a lovely restaurant with an amazing Beaujolais-dominated wine list. We ate simply and well. The main course was a local speciality called Saucisson Beaujolaise. This was made using fermentation lees from Dutraive and Metras. How cool is that?
Jo Landron Amphibolite Muscadet Sevre et Maine 2018 Loire
Six months on lees. This shows nice precision to the stony citrus fruit. Very linear with good acidity. There’s a lime kick on the finish. Not complex but delicious. 89/100
Jean-Claude Lapalu Le Blanc Beaujolais Villages 2018 France
From granitic soils. Stony and grainy and very textural. Has some lemon, a bit of pear and also some appley notes. Such focus, with a mineral core. 93/100
Guy Breton Morgon Vieilles Vignes 2017 Beaujolais, France
Textural and focused with lovely red cherry fruit. Finely spiced with good definition and lovely red fruit character. Nice precision and a sour cherry twist. So fine. 94/100
