Highlights: Niepoort Vintage Port 2003

This is a Vintage Port that I tried early on in its life, and then went an bought a bottle as soon as it appeared on the market. I should have bought more. Although this was a very hot vintage, it was a good year for Vintage Port. This is drinking perfectly now, just entering its drinking window I reckon. Of course, there’s still a very long life ahead of it. I didn’t decant.

Niepoort Vintage Port 2003 Douro, Portugal
12% alcohol. This is amazing, showing great concentration with sweet blackcurrant and black cherry fruit, as well as floral overtones and a salty liquorice edge. Brilliant concentration with real detail and intensity. Still has plenty of tannin but beginning to develop lovely harmony, elegance and aromatic complexity. 97/100
