Four Roses Bourbon Small Batch Select

Occasionally here on wineanorak I cover other drinks. For example, there was a recent piece on American whisky here.

Four Roses Bourbon Small Batch Select is a new entry to the UK Bourbon scene. This 133-year-old distillery is unique in combining two mash bills with five proprietary yeast strains to produce 10 distinct recipes. Six of these – all aged for between six and seven years – were selected and mingled by Master Distiller Brent Elliott to create Small Batch Select.

It’s 52% alcohol. Golden brown in colour it has a complex, enticing nose of vanilla, coconut, raisin and old furniture, with some peachy fruity notes in the background. The mouth is rich, seamless and mellow with peach, pear, coconut and raisin notes. It’s seamless and mellow with cinnamon and clove complexity. Concentrated and really sophisticated, this is an immediate, accessible Bourbon of real appeal, but also with some seriousness.

£58.00/75cl. Stockists include Harvey Nichols, Gerry’s of Soho, Hedonism, Master of Malt, Milroy’s, Selfridges and Spirits Kiosk.
