Restaurants: Bansang, San Francisco
Had a great meal last night at Bansang in San Francisco. It’s a modern Korean restaurant in a really nice spacious single dining room with lots of wood.

Small plates sharing menu is excellent and fairly priced, and the cooking is spot on.

Black cod was superb; yuzu pear salad a challenge with chopsticks but delicious; blistered shishito peppers were pretty much perfect; but the highlight was the pork fried rice, which was simple but had beautiful flavour.

The wine list is short, Californian focused, but really innovative: Carignan, Melon, Aligoté and the like. We chose a sake that turned out to be superb: Benten Sawane Junmai Gingo – Dewanosato rice polished to 55%, brewery based in Yamagata. I love eating in places like this.
