A beautiful day today. Out in Regent’s Park for a picnic lunch with some 2019 Rall Ava Chenin Blanc. Then wandering to Primrose Hill, stopping off at the excellent Bottle Apostle, who have an amazing selection of wines. We picked up this beauty. It was so lovely to look at one of the great views of the London skyline while drinking out of Govino glasses. There was a good crowd out: almost all 20-somethings, pre-kids. Good news for the wine industry: many of them had bottles with them. London is great on a day like today.

Tatomer Grüner Veltliner Meeresboden 2020 Santa Barbara County, California
12.5 % alcohol. The name of this wine means “Ocean Soil”, and in this case it is sand. This is a blend from several spots, with soils of sand, diatomaceous earth, and loam. Refined and textural with bright citrus fruit and a touch of ripe pear, and notes of aniseed and white pepper. Classy and understated this delivers good concentration, some varietal character and a twist of stony minerality on the finish. 93/100
