Champagne Collard-Picard Perpetuelle 12 Années NV France
This is a really lovely wine, and it’s also quite a technical one. First the blend: 50% Chardonnay (Côte des Blancs and Vitryat – Le Mesnil sur Oger and Oger, Vanault-le-Châtel) and 25% Pinot Noir and 25% Pinot Meunier (From the Marne valley between Epernay and Dormans). The base wine is a blend of 70% reserve wines (spanning 2008-2018) and 30% 2019, aged in a 7200 litre oak cask, with no malolactic. The wine was bottled in May 2020 and then disgorged four years later with a dosage of 4 g/L. It shows lovely intensity here with pure, refined citrus fruit, and a salty mineral edge. Great precision with lovely acidity with pithy grapefruit notes on the finish. Still quite taut and compressed, this shows real presence, and could improve in bottle. 93/100
