Véronique Günther-Chereau Cru Communal Gorges Muscadet Sèvre et Maine 2013 Loire, France
12% alcohol. This has a volcanic rock called Gabbro covered with a thin layer of clay-rich topsoil. At age 11, this is ageing slowly and beautifully with a stony, mineral edge to the tensile citrus fruit with a slight saltiness and notes of wax and floor polish, as well as a lovely crystalline quality. There’s even a hint of hay/straw, here, too. Noticeably Melon de Bourgogne (the grape of Muscadet) in character. It’s not an obvious grape, but it makes lovely wines. 93/100
