Highlights: two vintages of the Blanc de Raisins Blanc from Mas de Daumas Gassac, Languedoc star

Two versions of the same wine, eight years apart. Mas de Daumas Gassac are best known for their red wine, but they grow a lot of interesting white varieties, and this is their top white, blending together an interesting mix of grapes. This ages so well.

Mas de Daumas Gassac Blanc de Raisins Blanc 2024 Languedoc, France
13.5% alcohol. 35% Viognier, 29% Chardonnay, 13% Petit Manseng, 10% Chenin, 6% Muscat, 7% others. Aromatic stone fruits with a hint of mint and dried herbs. The palate has aniseed, pear and white peach, as well as nice texture. So expressive, with some volume. 94/100

Mas de Daumas Gassac Blanc de Raisins Blanc 2016 Languedoc, France
14% alcohol. 27% Viognier, 25% Petit Manseng, 21% Chardonnay, 13% Chenin, 14% others. Bold and powerful. Richly textured with peach, pear and apricot fruit as well as some toast and spice notes and a lovely mineral dimension: it’s a sort of sweet textural minerality, finishing with mandarin and sea salt. This shows some evolution, but not as much as you’d think. Very stylish. 94/100
