Filippi: natural expressions of Soave, Italy

Filippi are based in Soave, and the property has 20 hectares of forest as well as 14 hectares of vines. The highest point of the vineyard is 400 m, and this is a transition point between basaltic and limestone soils. Filippo Filippi has been making wines naturally here for more than 20 years now, and they are full of interest.

Winemaking is all in stainless steel tanks with wild yeast ferments.

Filippi Castelcerino 2024 Soave Colli Scaligeri, Italy
11% alcohol. This is from volcanic soils. Supple, finely textured and quite mineral, with notes of lemons, green apple and a hint of melon. Nice stony mineral undercurrent to the sweet, lively fruit. 93/100

Filippi Monteseroni Garganega 2023 IGT Verona, Italy
Garganega from limestone. Sometimes this is bottled as Soave but it can fail the taste test at the commission. This is fine-grained, textural and grainy with nice acidity. So fine grained with a stony, mineral edge, showing good acidity but also some depth. Lovely. 94/100

This is from a massal selection of 30 year old vines in the forest, on limestone soils. Fine and expressive with a lovely mineral edge and real delicacy. Fine and stony with beautiful poise and elegance. 94/100
