Frank is a family winery that’s been going since 1724. They’re currently farming 23 hectares of vines, and they are based in the far north east of the region.
They specialize in Grüner Veltliner, but also like to work with Riesling, which is 10% of their vineyard. ‘Grüner Veltliner is our most important variety, but we love Riesling,’ says Katrin Frank, who I tasted with at the 2026 edition of Vievinum. These are impressive wines.

11.5% alcohol. Fresh, linear and bright with a core of citrus fruit. Mineral and expressive with nice intensity and a hint of pepper. Stylish. 91/100

13.5% alcohol. This is a smaller part of Johannisberger. It’s a windy spot, and soils are loess. 600 litre barrels. Textured, fine and delicate with some depth. White pepper, pear and citrus. Rounded, but finishes slightly salty. 94/100

Limestone soils, raised in 600 litre barrels. Fresh, linear and textured. Bright with nice energy, and some notes of pepper as well as crystalline lemons. Lovely focus and refinement. 94/100

A village-level wine. Linear, bright and fruity with lovely texture. So expressive with nice fresh fruit but also good texture. Really good. 93/100

Lovely floral aromatics here. Really pure and vivid, and so inviting. Nice fruit, with a pure, joyful personalitu and good balance. 93/100

The soils are a mix of loess and limestone. Supple and elegant with fine red cherry fruit as well as some strawberry, with fine-grained structure. Such a lovely wine. 94/100
