Sugrue Never Mind The Gamay Here’s The Pinot Meunier 2025 England
12.5% alcohol. This blends together 97% Pinot Meunier from Sandhurst Vineyard in Kent, with 3% Gamay from Robin Hutson’s Alpaca Block Vineyard at the Pig in West Sussex (Robin is an investor in Sugrue). It’s whole bunch ferment, and aged for four months in a mix of French and American oak. This is juicy and expressive with lovely red cherry and cranberry fruit supplemented by a twist of spicy oak. There’s a real poise to this wine, which shows massive drinkability but also has a touch of complexity and seriousness. It’s fun but not ephemeral, and I really like it. 92/100 (£29 from Sugrue directly)
