Highlights: Nyetimber Blanc de Blancs 2018 England
Very impressed by this new release from leading English sparkling wine producer Nyetimber. Here’s a report from a visit last year during vintage, for some context.
It’s the 2018 Blanc de Blancs, which came from the famously warm and abundant vintage in the UK, which was a real break-through point for English sparkling wine. Give this a year or two more on cork and it will be even more special, I reckon. It has that Dom Pérignon skill of being delicious to everyone, but also worthy a closer look by geeks.
Nyetimber Blanc de Blancs 2018 England
12% alcohol. The code on the back of the bottle allows you to find out all the technical details of this precise bottle. This is what I was told. Bottling date 22.05.2019; Riddling date 28.07.2025; Disgorging date 26.02.2026; Dosage – Residual Sugar (g/L) 9.4. This is deeply impressive. Lovely fruit on the nose with sweet pear and white peach as well as ripe citrus fruit, combining well with subtle toasty autolytic characters that are lurking in the background. The palate is rich, generous and fruity but has lovely lemony focus and some crystalline character, finishing long and tapering. No rough edges here, with everything integrating perfectly and an overall sense of harmony and approachability, combined with complexity. This is a beautiful wine, and it’s really serious. 95/100
