Highlights: Overgaauw Sylvaner 2025 Stellenbosch, South Africa
This wine is noteworthy because it is South Africa’s only Sylvaner, first made in 1971. Just a single hectare of this variety in the ground (first planted in the 1960s). It has a reputation for ageing well, and I can believe that.
Overgaauw Sylvaner 2025 Stellenbosch, South Africa
13% alcohol. This is really interesting with a smoky edge to the sweet apple, yellow plum and peach fruit. Quite pure and nicely textured with some volume on the palate, finishing with a spicy flourish and bold melon and pear fruit. I really like the distinctive smoky spiciness here. Bold, and very stylish. 93/100 (£19.98 Museum Wines)
