The new release of this classic! And it’s really good.

Champagne Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru 2014 France
12.5% alcohol. 100% Grand Cru, from Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger. Aged 10 years on lees and disgorged with a 9 g/l dosage in April 2024. This is a brilliant expression of Comtes, from not the easiest of vintages. It’s focused and linear with good acidity and bright lemony fruit, with a fine toasty framing and just a bit of structure. There’s a vibrant, mineral sheen to the crystalline citrus fruit on the palate, and pleasure is provided by the touch of sweetness from the dosage and also some richer peach and apricot notes. This shows beautiful finesse and tension, alongside pleasure, and also the potential for some ageing on cork, which will bring up the bass a little to balance out the pronounced (but wonderful) treble notes. Combines seriousness and accessibility really well. 96/100
