The 2022s from Abruzzo star winery Emidio Pepe

Popped into Dynamic Vines today and tasted through the 2022s from Emidio Pepe, a remarkable winery that I’ve written about at length elsewhere.

None of these wines see oak, and winemaking is very low intervention. They are thrilling wines.

Emidio Pepe Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 2022 Italy
This is quite lovely. Concentrated, linear and pure with a lovely citrus drive with nice focus and a slight salinity. This has real energy with texture and weight. 95/100

Emidio Pepe IGT Colli Aprutini Pecorino 2022 Italy
Planted in 2000. Lovely focus waxy creamy edge to the lovely citrus fruit with spice, complexity and salinity. Such focus here but with depth and texture. 95/100

Emidio Pepe Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Branella 2022 Italy
There’s some limestone specks in the predominantly sandy soils in this plot, and its influence shows. Fresh, bright and pure with lovely precision showing taut rasperry and cherry fruit with linear fruit good acidity and nice tannin. Beautiful. 96/100

Emidio Pepe Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Casa Pepe 2022 Italy
From silty soils with some iron, this plot is the last to be harvested. Juicy and linear but with some depth to the focused black cherry and raspberry fruit. This has treble but also some nice bass and there’s good structure with grip and intensity. So nice, with real depth. 96/100
