This is a blend of more than 100 lots of wine, with 15-30% reserve wines, and a varietal mix tilted in favour of Chardonnay. It’s four lees on years with a dosage on the slightly hefty side (by modern standards) of 9 g/l. This is really attractive with a marked (but refined) toastiness complementing the white peach and lemon fruit. There’s a slight wet-stone minerality under the fruit and it’s really well balanced, with a touch of sweetness rounding everything off. For a basic NV blend this is on the classy side, and I can see why it’s highly regarded. 92/100
