Two impressive sparkling wines from Schramsberg

California fizz specialist hitting the mark

I visited Schramsberg a decade ago, and was impressed with their offerings. I think with sparkling wine, it really can pay if you make it your main focus. These two, recently drunk, were really good. 12.3% alcohol. Schramsberg are sparkling wine specialists, and it shows in this beautifully focused wine. Lovely pear and citrus fruit with some bright acidity and fine toasty notes. The core of this wine is a brilliantly proportioned crystalline citrus fruit line, with brightness and precision. Fruit driven and intense, with real class. 92/100

Pale pink in colour, this is sappy and delicious with some nice green hints as well as raspberry and cherry fruit, coupled with some citrus brightness. Quite dry and linear with a lovely fruit profile, showing impeccable balance. The leafy green notes are really appealing. Bright, with good acidity. 91/100
