Edmond de Rotschild Heritage‘s wine group is a collection of nine wineries, taking in Bordeaux, South Africa, Rioja (Macan), Argentina and New Zealand. This is their New Zealand outpost, and it’s a lovely wine.

Rimapere Sauvignon Blanc 2020 Marlborough, New Zealand
Rimapere is part of the Edmund de Rothschild collection of wine estates, and is a 24 hectare vineyard in the Rapaura subdistrict of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, with 20 of these planted to Sauvignon. The soils here are quite stony in places, and it is a hot-spot for characterful Marlborough Sauvignon. This is a really intense, vivid expression of Marlborough Sauvignon, with a lovely citrus fruit core (lemon and spicy grapefruit) and some attractive quince and green pepper hints, and also some exotic passionfruit and peach characters. It’s really lively with good acidity keeping things very fresh, and also a touch of pithiness, too. A concentrated, expressive example of the Wairau Valley style with lovely exotic fruit but also nice freshness. 92/100 (UK retail is £15-17, and the 2019 is available at Majestic for £14.99)
