Three wines from a new producer in Oxfordshire (UK): Yew Tree Vineyard

Website: https://yewtreevineyard.com/

Yew Tree is a 5 hectare vineyard in South Oxfordshire, with vines planted in 2015 and 2020 on greensand soils. After selling all the grapes for several years (I’ve tried wines from Black Book and Gutter & Stars from their fruit), they now have their own wines, with 2025 the first vintage. They are made and bottled at contract winery Defined Wines. These are priced at £19 direct to consumer.

Yew Tree Ortega 2025 Oxfordshire, England
12.5% alcohol. This is bright, juicy and fruity with a slight grapey edge to the citrus fruit. Juicy and tasty with direct fruit the main theme. It’s very clean with real ripeness as well as good acidity. 88/100

Yew Tree Bacchus 2025 Oxfordshire, England
11.5% alcohol. This is bright and energetic with nice crisp elderflower and citrus fruit, as well as a hint of table grape. Pure and focused with nice concentration, and bracing acidity on the finish. A lovely expression of Bacchus in a dry, tight style, but with plenty of varietal character. 90/100

Yew Tree Rosé 2025 Oxfordshire, England
12% alcohol. This is a blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Precoce. Appealing mid-pink in colour, this is juicy and fruity with some vibrant raspberry and redcurrant, as well as strawberries and cream. There’s a nice energy to this wine, and it’s very fruit forward and appealing. 89/100
