This is one of the best Finger Lakes wines I’ve had. It’s from the Element winery. Here, Christopher Bates MW makes small quantities of high-end wine, and his Cabernet Franc is one of the best in the range.
Element Cabernet Franc 2014 Finger Lakes, New York State
14% alcohol. This is a lovely cool-climate expression of Cabernet Franc. It’s aromatic with a fresh, supple, leafy edge to the sleek blackcurrant and cherry fruit nose, which has some fine chalky framing. The palate is sleek and polished with fresh, elegant cherry and blackcurrant fruit with a fine gravelly edge and some notes of chalk. It’s superbly fine and elegant – there’s something very special about this wine. Ethereal and in a beautiful place at the moment, I’m really impressed. 94/100
