Highlights: Champagne Krug Rosé NV France

Champagne Krug Rosé NV France
12.5% alcohol. This is 29% 2012, with 71% from reserve wines. In all, 22 wines from seven vintages were included in the wine, spanning 2006-2012. The blend is 40% Pinot Noir, 32% Pinot Meunier and 28% Chardonnay, plus 11% Pinot Noir red wine from a plot in Aÿ to add colour. It’s the 24th edition, and the Krug ID tells me this bottle was was disgorged Spring 2018. Deeply coral pink in colour with some orange notes. This is a powerful, lively, structured wine with intense raspberry and strawberry fruit, with some fine herbal notes, dried fruit, and a lively grapefruit edge. There’s some structure here, which makes it a very gastronomic rosé: Krug suggesting using this at the table in the way you might use a red wine. It has a long, lively, expanding finish with red fruits, spice and some citrus peel character. So many dimensions to this vinous Champagne, and the 11% red wine in the blend really makes its presence felt. 95/100
