Three Crows Syrah 2019 Bridge Pa, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand
13% alcohol. This is a collaboration between winemaker Rod McDonald and Liam Steevenson of Vineyard Productions. The vineyard source is Bridge Pa, and clones Chave, Grippat, MS and 174. Winemaking is with 30% whole bunch, and initially a cold soak. Maturation is in old oak with one new barrel in the mix. There’s no doubting the origin of this wine on the nose: it shows black pepper and fresh, supple black cherry and berry fruits. Very Hawke’s Bay. The palate is quite elegant and fruit-driven, with real drinkability. Supple, fresh raspberry and cherry fruit with some pepper and spice, too. Really fresh and elegant, with a bit of savoury, peppery interest. This has drinkability and elegance, and could develop in interesting ways. 93/100
