Highlights: Brooks Wines Ara Riesling 2021, Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA

One of the many highlights of the Brooks Wines portfolio, Ara was one of the first Rieslings founder/winemaker Jimi Brooks created when founding the winery in 1998. This near-dry (only 7.74 g/L RS) older-vine Riesling from the stunning 2021 vintage is primarily Brooks’ estate Eola-Amity Hills fruit, with the remaining from Yamhill-Carlton, resulting in an alluring mix of volcanic and marine sedimentary soils. Streamline lime pulp, ripe honeydew, grapefruit is textured with crunchy Asian pear and lemon thistle, and lined with verbena through a long, struck stone, saline finish. So sleek and sculpted, with ample concentration beyond its 12.5%. Benchmark Riesling producer for North America, and this youthful Ara is shining now (and for some years ahead). Only 225 cases produced. 92/100
