Highlights: Château Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes Grand Blanc Sec 2020 Bordeaux

Suduiraut, a leading Sauternes producer, have decided to take dry white Bordeaux more seriously. It’s a good move: while their Sauternes is a world-class wine, consumption occasions for these wines are relatively rare these days. And the market has voted: while top red Bordeaux has appreciated in value, if you’ve been buying Sauternes en primeur you may well have lost money. Bordeaux whites are still a little under-appreciated, but I don’t think this will last for long, for the top wines. And this wine is remarkable.

Château Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes Grand Blanc Sec 2020 Bordeaux
14% alcohol. This is from Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc vines with an average age of 45, from terroir rated as Sauternes 1er Cru. It’s beautifully aromatic with aromas of lime, fennel, grapefruit and a touch of woodsmoke, as well as a hint of melon. The palate shows beautiful concentration and balance with textured citrus fruit, some pear and melon, and beautifully integrated oak. Seamless, refined and with everything in place for a beautiful development in bottle, this is a fantastic expression of white Bordeaux. 95/100
