I’m in the lounge at Sao Paolo airport in Brazil, after an amazing few days doing a deep dive into coffee at Fazenda Mio, which I’ll write up in full soon. I thought I’d try the only Brazilian wine on offer, and it’s an appealing and affordable sparkler. I’ve tasted quite a few of the higher-end Valduga wines before, but this was my first time with this less expensive one.
Casa Valduga Arte Tradicional Brut 2024 Brazil
This is a traditional method sparkler, 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir, and it has spent a year on its lees. It’s fruity and bright and nicely aromatic, with sweet pear and cherry fruit with a touch of sweetness rounding things out nicely, and lovely vivid citrus notes. Juicy and quite tasty, with the focus firmly on the fruit. It’s not aiming at profundity, but pleasure, and it finishes with an appealing bitter hint that adds interest. 88/100 (in Brazil this retails for just over £10 equivalent)
