Video and gallery: Festival del Potatare, the Simonit & Sirch pruning festival 2024
I’m just back from the Festival del Potatare, the second edition of the pruning festival organized by industry leading pruning consultancy Simonit & Sirch. Held at San Felice in Chianti Classico, it was a two-day event. The first day was a technical conference looking at the role of water in viticulture and how this has become a major issue in many of the world’s wine regions. The second day saw the pruning competition, and an excuse to have some fun in the vineyard. As well as a single and group pruning competition, there were demonstrations of vineyard equipment (including horse plouging and drone spraying) and lumberjack and street dance displays.
