I visited Peter-Allan Finlayson at Gabrielskloof back in November. I really like the Crystallum wines he makes there, so if I see them around I’ll often give them a try. This is a bottle drunk recently that delivered a lot of pleasure.
Crystallum Peter Max Pinot Noir 2021 Western Cape, South Africa
14% alcohol. Sweet red fruit aromatics here with a sappy green hint alongside liqueur-like red cherries and wild strawberries. In the mouth this has a nice silky texture and quite a bit of volume: it’s rounded and supple with bold strawberry and red cherry fruit with a bit of structure. Offering real pleasure and more than a hint of complexity, this is really good. 93/100
