Domaine Plaisance-Penavayre Bouysselet 2021 Vin de France
13.5% alcohol. This is organically farmed Bouysselet, a rare old Fronton variety that Plaisance-Penavayre have recently planted (they now have 1.1 ha), after it was rediscovered in an old pre-phylloxera vineyard. This is a cross between Savagnin from Jura and Plant de Cauzette from Béarn. Soils are clay/limestone, and the wine is aged half in sandstone amphorae and half in large neutral oak barrels. This is really expressive with sweet pear and citrus fruit, a hint of apple, and nice palate weight. There’s some richness to the fruit, but it stays fresh and supple. Fine, textural and with some stony minerality and good complexity. A deeply satisfying dry white. 92/100
