Love this wine, which I bought from a wine shop in Lisbon. The mastery of Baga, maturing it in amphorae – it also does well in large format wood.
Filipa Pato and William Wouters Post Quer..s Baga 2023 Bairrada, Portugal
11.5% alcohol. Post quercus translates as after oak, and this is Baga that has been fermented and aged in amphorae. It’s made from biodynamically certified grapes. This is fresh and supple with juicy black cherry fruit and some nice stony, chalky texture. It’s bright and vivid with good energy and some sappy notes in the background. There’s even some clay and earth character right under the sleek, supple fruit. This is really appealing with drinkability but also some seriousness. 95/100 (€21.95 Garrafeira Nacional)
