Restaurants: Nopalito, San Francisco

One great advantage that San Francisco (and the rest of California) has over London is the availability of great Mexican food. On a recent trip I lunched at Nopalito. I’d been nine years ago, and loved it, and the good news is that it’s still there and just as good.

It began life in 2009, and the chef/owner Gonzalo Guzman hails from Catemaco in Veracruz.

The restaurant, on Broderick Street (close to Haight-Ashbury), has an informal feel to it, and there are no reservations, but the food is incredible. This isn’t a place to drink fancy wine, although this is an option: the list is very short but very good (Broc Cellars and Field Recordings – they are doing this right).

Everything is right about this place – strong recommendation for a brunch or lunch spot.
