Tried this tonight, and was really impressed. I’ve tried previous vintages, but this was quite striking in its power and complexity.
Graham Beck Cuvée Clive 2018 Western Cape, South Africa
12% alcohol. A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this is the prestige cuvée from Graham Beck, the leading producer in the Cap Classique category in South Africa. And it’s deeply impressive. A full yellow in colour it has a bold, aromatic nose of toast, honey, lime and apricot with nice freshness as well as some depth. In the mouth this is bold and expansive with fine toasty notes framing the intense, pure fruit. Lots of bright citrus, a hint of cherry, some apricot richness and then more notes of nuts and honey. It finishes broad, complex and long. This isn’t shy: it’s a big wine. But it’s so lovely and compelling. 95/100
