Michel Gonet have properties in Bordeaux, as well as their grower Champagne operation. They have a sizeable 38 hectares, spread out quite widely through the region, with vineyards in Côte des Blancs (these are Grand Cru), the Coteaux Sézannais, Montgueux, and Bar-sur-Aubois down in the south. Their winery and cellars are based in Avize.

Winemaking is in the hands of mother-and-daughter team Diane and Sophie Gonet, Chef de Cave Antoine Gomérieux. Marco Pelletier – owner of Vantre restaurant in Paris, who also makes wines at Bordeaux’s Domaine de Galouchey – is now a consultant here.

Champagne Michel Gonet 3 Terroirs Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2020 France
This was disgorged in 2025 after five years on lees with a dosage of 4 g/l, and shows a wide dynamic range, perhaps because it is from three very different terroirs (Le Mesnil sur Oger, Vindey, Montgueux). Great acid line under fine pear, apple and lemon fruit with some subtle toastiness. Really lively with a salty finish. 93/100

Champagne Michel Gonet Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru 2015 France
This is from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, and the lieu-dit les Hautes Mottes. It’s zero dosage or up to 2 g/l depending on the vintage. Lively, fresh and linear with precise citrus fruit and good acidity. Lovely focus and amazing precision: this is really good. 95/100

Champagne Michel Gonet Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru 2016 France
Nice depth here, showing precision but also some weight. Lemon and pear fruit with some mineral detail. Lovely intensity and tension, with a long finish. 95/100

Champagne Michel Gonet Les Hautes Mottes Le Mesnil Sur Oger Grand Cru Brut Nature 2018 France
From the best part of Le Mesnil, this wine was initiated by Marco Pelletier and Raj Parr has also been involved in its creation. This site, next to Les Chétillons, is at the extreme end of the Côte des Blancs and has 30 cm topsoil and then mother rock. Base wine is fermented in oak barrels and then it spends five years on lees. Amazing depth with notes of toast, honey and spice alongside crystalline citrus fruit, with a slight saltiness. Real depth of citrus here with some white peach notes. Vinous. 96/100
